Paul Hannon
Paul is a former financial journalist now working as a painter and printmaker in southwest London. His interest has slowly shifted from woodcuts to linocuts, many of which are bordering on the abstract.
In contrast to lino techniques that emphasise large blocks of colour, Paul attempts to push the reductive process to the extreme, leaving only fine line drawings, full of movement and activity.
Concentrating mainly on foreground figures, Paul sometimes omits backgrounds as a distraction. This can be seen in some of his “stained glass window” images which emulate the size and physical structure of leaded glass windows.
Throughout, he is striving for simplicity of image and economy of style.
