Nicky Montagu

Teaching art and design for many years gave Nicky the opportunity to explore many different mediums and processes and incorporate these into her own art practice. Her current focus is with printmaking and making jewellery. Her work demonstrates a fascination with the layering of texture, pattern and mark making.

The transient qualities of the natural world are explored in the prints made by her, she combines multiple blocks to create work that communicates her interest with pattern and texture, where land meets water in tidal estuaries and rivers, these prints convey movement and energy.

Other prints are based on recalled imagery and have a reduced complexity of shape and form, this is in contrast with the meticulous process involved in the making of these prints, and they convey stillness, a fragment of recollection.
