Janet Mays
Janet took up etching when she retired from singing professionally and found it really fascinating to learn what the different techniques do for one single image. And then, mixing them to produce the print is yet another variation.
With singing one is bound by the composer’s vision and the artist attempts to interpret the work as near as possible to that vision. It was quite a new approach for her to become the composer so to speak.
There are so many facets to interpreting one landscape for example, in all the various printing techniques. She found it interesting to let herself be led by some other part of the artistic brain. Janet enjoys the natural world and on the whole her prints reflect that. Now she works at stone lithographs, etchings, monoprints and oil paintings.
